It's possible to create shelves which only appear on specified virtual desktops.

No, but I use screen-specific shelves.

I use most shelves on all desktops, but I always have one desktop with no shelves and usually one without the pager shelf.

Yet, if you ask "should the option be available," I would say, "yes." Even though I have not availed myself of the option, the question has focused me on the possibilities and I WILL be playing with some variations!

I have no plans to remove this feature at this time.

Thanks for the clarification, Mike.

My shelf use is likely far too conventional, but the question had me wondering why I never thought to eliminate my one shelf from at least one of my 4 desktops. While not a conscious decision, it was clearly to keep a systray available. I now have stalonetray for the programs using Xembed, so the shelf looks less desirable to have everywhere (e.g., why should I have it in this desktop with Firefox???).

I didn't actually know that this was possible. This opens up more options. Might have to think about this, and autohiding shelves, then experiment.

this is a clear requirement if using more then one screen and wanting to play a good old windoze game via wine because requirement of window mode for that game. otherwise some, mostly dos base windoze games, will either cover all screens, not function or use the screen configured as main.
