Look

Wallpaper

  • Use Theme Wallpaper

Use whichever image is specified by the currently set E theme.

Application Theme

GTK Applications

  • Match Enlightenment theme if possible

Try to set the GTK theme which is specified by the currently set E theme.

  • Enable X Application Settings

Enable changes to various X settings based on the configurations in this dialog; disable this if you use an external application to set these options.

Icons

  • Enable icon theme for applications

Enable changes to X settings for icons based on the configurations in this pane; disable this if you use an external application to set these options.

  • Enable icon theme for Enlightenment

Use the specified icon theme for E internal icons; set this to override theme-provided icons.

Theme

  • Personal / System

Personal themes are Elementary/E Edje themes which reside in ~/.elementary/themes. System themes are stored in a directory based on your Elementary install, /usr/share/elementary/themes by default.

  • Show startup splash

Enable showing the E theme-provided startup screen on first run.

Colors

These settings are allowed based on color classes available in the currently set E theme. The most frequently changed setting here is the Composite Focus-out Color, which allows unfocused windows to be tinted or faded.

Fonts

These settings allow changing the default theme font. Depending on the currently set E theme, this can be changed with varying degrees of granularity across the system.

Borders

This dialog allows the changing of window border themes based on E theme capabilities. It can also be accessed from the window menu (Alt+Right Click by default), and it currently has no effect for external Wayland clients.

Transitions

These are effects applied to the wallpaper for various events.

Events

  • Startup

This is the effect which is run upon first starting Enlightenment.

  • Desk Change

This is the effect which is run upon changing virtual desktops. Note: effects set on this event will interfere with more complex virtual desktop animations, such as those from the desksanity external module.

  • Background Change

This is the effect which is run upon changing the current wallpaper.

Transitions

  • None

Disable wallpaper effects for this event.

  • crossfade

Fade smoothly from one image to the next.

  • vswipe

Transition the image from top to bottom.

Scaling

The scale factor determines the size of various UI elements in the interface. Scalability of elements is based on the currently set E theme. Default scaling is 1.0.

Policy

  • Don't Scale

Disable scaling.

  • Scale relative to screen DPI

Set scaling based on current screen DPI.

  • Custom scaling factor

Set scaling to a custom level.

Constraints

These settings allow for guarantees in scaling which may be useful if the scale factor is being set relative to screen DPI.

  • Minimum

The minimum scaling to use.

  • Maximum

The maximum scaling to use.

Compositor

Basic

General
  • Don't fade backlight

Disable fading the backlight for various effects, eg. enabling the screensaver.

  • Enable "fast" composite effects

Use theme-based effects which have shorter duration than the default where available; this setting depends on theme capabilities.

  • Disable composite effects

Disable all window and object compositor-based effects; this option will simulate an uncomposited desktop.

  • Select default style

Change the default theme style to use for window compositor effects. This can be overridden by specific window/object matches.

Rendering
  • `Tear-free updates (VSynced)

Attempt to synchronize compositor canvas rendering to refresh rate of the display to reduce tearing.

  • Smooth scaling of window content

Enables image smoothing for use during compositor effects on windows; this option requires more GPU/CPU power to achieve smooth rendering.

  • Don't composite fullscreen windows

Disable compositing when fullscreen, non-shaped windows are visible. This greatly improves rendering and battery performance for activities such as playing games or watching movies.

  • Engine
    • Software - Use CPU-based software rendering.
    • OpenGL - Use GPU-based hardware rendering if possible.

Advanced

Styles
  • Edit window matches

This dialog allows for overriding composite effect themes for specified objects and windows.

  • Select default style

Change the default theme style to use for window compositor effects. This can be overridden by the Edit window matches dialog.

Effects

These options allow for granular toggling of fast/disable effects for various classes of windows and objects. See above descriptions.

Rendering

Most of these options are explained above.

  • Texture from pixmap

Create GL textures from window pixmaps to improve rendering performance.

  • Assume swapping method

Don't touch these unless you can fill in the entries in this document. Seriously.

Misc
  • Send flush

Useless.

  • Send dump

Useless.

  • Grab server during draw

Block X server event processing for clients during draw. Enable to reduce your rendering performance in some cases. Not a typo.

  • Initial draw timeout for newly mapped windows

E19: Force show of X clients after the specified amount of time has elapsed. This guarantees that windows will eventually be shown, though it has no effect in the vast majority of use.
E17-E18: Show X clients after the specified amount of time has elapsed. Windows will never be shown until this amount of time has elapsed.

  • Enable advanced compositing features

This option enables various dangerous/experimental/unsupported features for the compositor which may provide extra functionality at expense of system usability.

Debug
  • Show framerate

Display the compositor's rendering framerate on screen.

  • Rolling average frame count

Determines how the framerate display is averaged.

  • Corner

Determines where the framerate display is located.

Apps

Teamwork

Cache

  • Disable remote media fetching

Disables Teamwork's remote media fetching capabilities.

  • Maximum media size to fetch

Sets a maximum size on downloaded files; downloads will abort once they reach this limit.

  • Maximum media cache size in RAM

Sets a maximum size on the media cached in RAM.

  • Maximum media cache age on disk

Media older than this will be deleted from the disk cache. Pruning occurs on most Teamwork actions and updates but does not occur on startup or shutdown.

Popups

  • Disable video previews

Disables Teamwork functionality for video type media.

  • Mouse-out hide delay

Determines the delay for hiding the current popup after mousing out of the trigger region.

  • Opacity

Determines the opacity of the popup.
